My time in Thailand was incredible, emotional and completely unforgettable. Through Changing Worlds, I went completely off the beaten track. Helping the Akha hill tribes I got a unique experience of life in one of Thailand’s poorest communities. We swam in waterfalls no white people had been in; we trekked into an obscure part of the jungle; camped on remote mountain tops; participated in Akha Ceremonies; joined in with festivals, soaked in natural hot springs, visited lonely temples, and that was just the weekends. Every week we traveled to a different village, helping to build bamboo houses and toilets, weed coffee fields and pick coffee beans, teach English, and learning to cook Akha food. Some of the villages were so remote that the babies would cry when they saw our strange white skin, but everywhere we went the people welcomed us like we were part of the family.
Because Changing Worlds offered a complete safety net, I never felt in any danger – the only sense of alarm I had was when our Akha guides informed us in the middle of a jungle trek that we’d had a visit in the night from a tiger! If you want to ask more I am at kbcowbrae@aol.com
