Hi. I'm going to Ghana in September 09 but I'm staying there for six months, so that when you'll arrive I still be there! What kind of volonteering are you going to do? I'm planning to work in an orphanage first(for about 3months) and then to teach English in a primary school.
I'm really excited but a bit scared too, and you? How do you feel about going overseas?

That's cool! I'm planning to be working in a hospital for 5 months starting in March. I am a wee bit scared- i just don't know what it's going to be like at all! I'm not too worried about being overseas- i spent this summer mountaineering in India and hope to have done a bit more travelling before i get to Ghana. It's not long until you go, is it then?

Sorry for answering you so late....I was too busy! Work in a hospital? You're very brave...I personnally don't feel very well when there is too much blood! ;-) it is a great project. You'll be very useful there because they haven't enough medical material so every help is welcome! But have you already worked or done volunteering job in a hospital?
You are very lucky to have been in India. I'm sure it was fantastic, was it?
I'm very pleased to speak with you because I'm Swiss and sometimes I feel a bit alone when I talk about my project around me. I don't know if it has more success in the UK but I don't know many people that have done something similar, and you?
Last question: How old are you? I'm 17. I'm doing my last high school year to pass my A-level, and you, what do you do?
PS: Please tell me if there are English mistakes...! Thanks

I think working in a hospital will be...interesting-certainly very different from hospitals in Scotland!
I have done some work experience in my local hospital and i volunteer at a hospice as i want to study medicine at university. Have you applied to university etc yet?
India was fantastic- I spent five weeks climbing and trekking in the north of the country, which was really amazing. Whereabouts in switzerland are you from? I have some friends in Diablerets.
In the UK i think quite a few people do this sort of thing on their gap years- volunteer work in other countries- though i haven't met anyone else going to ghana.
I am 17 too- I am in my last year of school sitting Advanced Highers (a bit like A levels but scottish). Your english is better than mine! By the way, do you have MSN messenger?

Hi, thank you for your quick answer!
I haven't apply to university yet. I'm still looking for what I'm going to study and what kind of work I'm going to do later...I hope this gap year and Ghana will help me to find my way! What I know is that I want to work with people, to help them, and to feel useful...but it isn't very precise or particular to one specific job!
I live in Yverdon-les-Bains. It's 20min far by train from Lausanne and 45min by train from Geneva.
My messenger is: amelie.sterchi@hotmail.com
See you soon on messenger!

Hi!
Yes, I'm definitly leaving Switzerland to Ghana in September. The date is not sure but it's the fourth for the moment.
I had a lot this year because I do hockey and our team is organising its first tournament only feminine in August and I had a lot of exams(school, piano and rudiments of music) so I hadn't much time to do a real fundraising. I just asked my family, my professors and my school friends if the wanted to "sponsor" my trip by giving me bit of money.
I have talked to my parents and we came to the agreement that for the moment they'll pay the trip, but when I'll come back I'll have to pay them back! I had already planed to work until I begin a new year of studies (from March to July 2010).
On the other hand I'm working three weeks in July as a supervisor in a holiday camp for children.
And I'm going to London (for the first time!!!) the fourth of July to meet the others "Ghana travellers"!!! I'm delighted to be there!!Are you going too? that would be great to meet you!
I am waiting for your news and wish you all the best for your trip organisation!

Sadly i'm not going to be at that weekend- I'm away climbing in France on the 4th. However I think i am going to the next one they hold!
I think I am working for 6 months to pay for it- also i'm going to work when i get back to pay for university!
I'm at the moment packing rucksacks and bags for my summer...
Do you know how many other people are going to be in Ghana at the same time as us from changing worlds? It doesn't look like many!

Unfortunately I don't know anybody else! That's why I'm so delighted to see the others next Saturday.
I also wanted to ask you when in May you are going in Ghana. Do you already know? Because I think I'll leave Ghana in May so it would be sad that I don't meet you especially as you are the only one that I have talked with!
As I can see you love climbing!!! Where are you going in France? In the Alps?
You'll maybe be just next to us!
Have a good day!

I am going to ghana in March so that's alright- I will see you there! No- sadly i'm not going to the Alps (much too expensive!)- i'm going to the pyrenees instead, i'm spending my whole summer there.
You must tell me what the other people going there are like then!

Hi!
Here are news about the pre-departure day:
- We are only two leaving in Ghana in September 2009!So that we were only 4 at the meeting point this Saturday 4th of July: Barry(a friend of David who knows Ghana well), Mahdieh(the other girl that is leaving with me), my mother and I!!!
- Barry explained us quite a lot of things about security, clothing, ghanaian culture, etc. He was really friendly and honest with us. After talking about all important topics we went to a ghanaian market, in London! That was quite amazing to see this part of the city; it seemed like we where in Ghana but not in the UK! Finally Barry took us to a ghanaian restaurant to have lunch together. The food tasted really good: we had rice, fish, fried bananas, curry beans, salad and hot sauces.
- In conclusion: I had a great day in London even if I'd loved to stay longer!
I hope that you enjoyed your trip in France and hope you have fun if you are still there.

Hi Debbie!!!
I'm happy to know that you are going in Ghana even if we aren't leaving at the same time. Since I would come back before you leave, I could let you know how it was, send you photos, share my experience with you and give you advices!
As you have read the hole topic, I think you know quite a lot about me, but what about you? How old are you? Why did you choose to go in Ghana and how many time are you planning to stay there?
I'm waiting for your news and wish you all the best in your project.
