Hi Laura,  I am going to ask some of our old volunteers to reply to you, and write a little about their time in New Zealand, In the mean time here are some comments from an ex volunteers post placement questionaire.

How did you cope with problems?  By using resources I had around me - friends and contacts made in NZ, Changing Worlds & family back home, - always ask for advise.

What was the most challenging part of your placement?  Initially learning to cope with the idea of being acroww the complete other side of the world, surrounded by no-one who knows you, and to grit your teeth and keep going when it gets hard.

How well did you adapt to living away from home in a different culture? Really well- thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and 'just chill out' attitude of kiwis.

How well did you get on with your hosts and those you were placed with?  Made some excellent friends who I plan to revisit as soon as my bank account recovers!  Made me feel really welcome and gave me such amazing opportunities & experience.

Did the placement live up to your expectations? please provide details.  Placed with a really experienced vet - totally relaxed about letting me get fully hands on in minor ops etc - brilliant experience in prep for uni.  Bay of Islands was stunning - quiet and peacerul but there's still so much to do.  Family I stayed with were brilliant people who made sure I was always involved and made me feel welcome.  Able to set me up with work on 4 other farms around the country.

Do you recommend any changes to the programme?  More extensive prior knowledge of placement and family to be stayed with.

What recommendations and advice would you give to future participants? Make the most of it! - don't listen to all the people who say it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, because you can always go again tomorrow.  Be independent & and always use the motto 'sod it , why not' if stuck on decisions.

What was the best part of the placement? There's no way there was just one thing - each bit of the experience was individual & brilliant in its own way.  Although if forced I would probably say learning just how much I can do

What did you think of the programme as a whole?  Awesome - the only word for it.
