Hi there. I won't be going to China, I'm going to Kenya for my gap yeart. However I was in China in Octoer and thought I'd let you know a little about it. You will LOVE IT!

The people are so friendly and are wonderful people. They give so much when they have so little. I visted Beijing, Chongqing and Shanghai. Shanghai was simalar to London in whcih poverty was out in the open - people sleeping on the streets and beggers always asking for money.

I went to the great wall in Beijing - which was so wicked :)

Anyways, In Chongqing I stayed with a family - they didn't really speak much English (however all school studenst learn like almost perfect English from a young age) and they made us so welcome. The food is nothing like in the resturants, but being half orential I didn't have a problem. It depends on you taste. We went to school there for 4 days - the best experience ever. The students have never seen foreginer so they surrounded us like little bugs for hours on end. We were like celebrities - they are so friendly but they wante d to just take picture after picture with us - they literally queued up to take pictures with us. Its crazy. if you go to myspace http://www.myspace.com/buakloo and check out my China pictures you'll see how students there are and to be honest alot of the photos thaat were taken, I don't remember the people I took them with. (There are 5000 students in one school, so about 50 in one class) And lessons are so different from in England. Oh my gosh its so amazing.

I suppose you're goin to work in a rural area and I guess if you come across children they will most probaly be facinated by you.

Anyways all the best and I know you will have a great time. China is wicked and so amazing and I am definatley going back there one day.

:)
